A letter from Patrick on behalf of Hotels & Highways:
February 14th, 2019 finds me in Ojai, CA on a quest to tie up some musical loose ends. I brought a hard drive of songs in various stages of completion to El Camino Sound aka Syd and Dari's house. (But also a real-deal studio.)
Included in my files were 3 songs that Hotels & Highways recorded after a show in Detroit with my good friend Bob Jones at Rustbelt Studios. One of those tunes was "Lost Without You".
"Lost" was the anchor of our show. Lisa got to show the world why she is a star, while Syd and I got to mash up our favorite soul and Beatles sounds supporting our beloved bandmate as she blew people away. Other songs in our setlist could be better or worse each night depending on a whole number of variables, but audiences could not resist this song. Neither could we.
We wrote "Lost" on a short tour break in New Orleans. We debuted it at our ASCAP showcase at SXSW just days later. A bold choice, but it just felt too damn good to play. Most importantly, our Lisa finally had a song to let her inner-diva shine. Our secret weapon wasn't a secret anymore.
Lisa- We miss you. This was a long time coming, but Syd and I are so proud to be able to finally get this out into the world.*
Friends and fan-mily- We miss you too! Who knows what else might be coming down the line?
*By "out into the world" we mean exclusively on Bandcamp for now. It will be out everywhere else soon.
lyrics
I’ve been down every road
That I thought might take me home
But I’m lost, I’m so lost without you
I had to run, had to fly away
You let me go and now it’s clear as day
That I’m lost, I’m so lost without you
Since I left you all alone
Boy this heart don’t feel like a home
I have tried every way
To find love like we made
Did I leave our bridge in flames?
Did you find someone to take my place?
Well I’m lost, I’m still lost without you
I’m still lost, yeah
Since I left you all alone
Boy this heart just don’t feel like my home
I hope it’s not too late
Cuz when I come back, this time I’ll stay
I’ve been down every road
Now I know you are my home
And I’m lost, I’m so lost without you
